Prices As Low As £7/p Day - What's The Catch?
There really isn't a catch, as long as you read the full terms and conditions! Car rental companies in Spain often get a bad wrap because they do things slightly differently to the UK, but as long as you know what you're looking for you won't get caught out.
We've highlighted some of the pain points our customers tell us about in Spain to ensure that you don't get caught out and aren't paying extra:
Additional Charges: Often car hire companies in Spain will try hard sell you on additional charges, a common one is protecting your quite high excess, paying for additional drivers and some include an admin fee on top of your rental, but not all. We stress if you read the T&Cs you will be able to find a rental in Alicante at a fantastic price without being stung.
Upgrade: The language barrier also sometimes can complicate this, again car rental companies at the airport often try and upsell so they may offer you an upgrade, but make it sound more like "your in luck". Ensure that you are not paying for the upgrade before receiving the car. This is only usually the case with smaller Spanish rental companies such as Goldcar or Centauro.
Full To Full Fuel Policy: People can be a little prickly about this one, in Spain and well most other countries car hire works on a full to full policy, meaning that you get the car with a full tank and need to return it with a full tank.
Often as you need to hand the car back with a full tank you need to fill it up as near to the airport as possible, but this shouldn't be a problem as right near the exit of the airport you will drive past a petrol station, it's actually within the airport grounds so it's easy enough to find!
Palma De Mallorca - Other Useful Information
- It's less than a 15 minute drive from the airport into the centre of Palma, you literally just drive the MA-19 highway which passes to the south of the airport and it leads you straight into the capital.
- It's about a 20 minute drive to Magaluf if you're on your way to party central. Parking can be tricky in Magaluf though so it's best to book it with your hotel before you go if your planning on hiring a car!
- During high season (June-September) driving around Majorca can get a bit congested and busy around the resorts and popular towns, purely due to the amount of tourists, so make sure you plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time to get to places!
